Joe's Movement Emporium
Joe's 25th Glam Gala
-
A series of "Save the Date" postcards and emails set the tone for Joe's 25th Cosmic Event.
-
Each studio area at Joe's Emporium was themed and stylized to convert the interior building space into a starship.
-
The outside of Joe's building had flats and lighting to bring a futuristic photo-op to the neighborhood.
-
The transporter entry was another spot for selfies and helped direct traffic to the up ramp entry. Guests were encouraged to come in full Sci-Fi, Glam Rock, or Afro Futuristic garb to win a best-costume award.
-
The Star Bar offers Rock-it Fuel, Comet Tails and Astro-draught, while intergalactic staff passes Binary Bites!
-
Ziggy's Stardust Lounge served Space Cowboy Caviar, Tribble Nibbles, Saturn Rings, under a giant Spider from Mars. In the Meteor Lounge, drinks were poured opposite the band, and arial performers floated around the ceiling.
-
The Spider from Mars over the buffet area stretched over a 30' diameter. Constructed of recycled materials found at Joe's, LED lighting pulsed through its legs and created a chandelier.
Established in 1995, Joe’s Movement Emporium is the largest cultural arts hub in Prince George's County. Joe’s integrates progressive education, and youth development through creative programs, performing arts productions, and work readiness.
For Joe's 25th Anniversary Gala, a cosmic event was planned that combined Interstellar Chic, Glam-rock, and Superhero Exuberance.
The building and studios were re-imagined into the future with a Multi-verse mash-up. Each studio area of the "Starship Emporium" channeled aspects of Afro-Futurism, Pop-Icons, Sci-Fi Charm, and served with a Comic-con Vibe.
Then in the midst of production, the Pandemic struck and the Black Lives Matter movement led us to reconsider the moment.
At warp speed, we shifted from science fiction, into the real need for social healing. Together we produced a virtual Creative Revolution touched the soul of Joe's Community.
