Nuclear fusion and alternative energy sources interpreted in the greenhouse area
Overlooking the twin cooling towers standing in the Pennsylvania Countryside, the visitor center is used for employee training and community outreach.
Twenty-plus interactive displays and demonstrative models interpret the story of nuclear power from the mining and processing of radio-active elements, to environmental impact.
Alternative energy sources are considered in the Future Energy Greenhouse, a glass enclosed room with dramatic view of the cooling towers.
The education theater includes display cases with artifacts, a stage for live experiments, classroom and lecture facilities. Power Plant staff training, student tours and public meetings are also held in this space.
Also created for PECO at the site were a multi-media diorama of the power plant environment and a Virtual Plant-Tour kiosk allowing visitors to safely tour the plant using walk-through 3D program and remote video cameras.
