"Backyard to the Bay," informs visitors to the River Center about the natural diversity, and scenic beauty of the Potomac River. The River Center is at lockhouse #8 on the C&O Canal.
The exhibit explores past and present human influence on the Potomac River watershed. Most importantly the cause-and-effect relationships between people and the health of the ecosystem are considered. Visitors learn how their daily activities directly affect the river and its watershed.
The exhibit is a part of the Chesapeake Bay Gateways Network, a partnership of parks, refuges, museums, historic sites, and water trails spanning the watershed.
